Grow X Education Attends mEducation Alliance Symposium 2024
The mEducation Alliance Symposium took place from October 1-4 in Virginia and Washington D.C. in October 1 - 4, under the theme STEMtastic Adventures! This annual conference brought together experts, policymakers, educators, and EdTech companies from more than 40 countries, all sharing innovative, technological strategies to address educational inequalities and broadening access to quality learning, especially in underserved and remote communities. For the Grow X Education team, it was an exciting first-time experience at the mEducation Alliance Symposium.
Dr. Paik presented findings from the past two years of research with the earlier version SEL integrated platform. The presentation highlighted empirical evidence showing that elementary students’ social and emotional competencies can be assessed digitally, with minimal adult supervision, using the X-BOT, which offers a powerful solution for examining and supporting large, diverse student populations. By leveraging data-driven methods of building predictive models, Dr. Paik also shared research findings demonstrating the impact of Korean students’ SEL skills—self-regulation, growth mindset, emotion knowledge, and emotional awareness—on their academic performance, school engagement, and/or psychological well-being.
It was exciting to debut our new and extended Grow X SEL for the first time, informed by our own research and decades of evidence-based methods for supporting SEL. The discussions and questions following the presentations emphasized the importance of a holistic approach to education in the 21st century, focused on preventative rather than reactive approach to building students’ SEL skills for academic success and well-being, especially for underserved students.
Many in attendance shared the same sentiment: there is a clear need for accessible and impactful SEL tools and platforms such as Grow X SEL will be essential for bridging equity gaps, reaching diverse populations through rigor of learning science and EdTech innovation. New and memorable connections were formed with representatives from various Ministry of Education attending the event and we look forward to collaborating with our international partners—and to returning to next year’s mEducation Alliance.
